Imagine the horror. Then you lose your hearing and ability to speak. How would your day go? Your family grows tired of your burden and considers placing you in a "home for the challenged". In those days, that was a nightmare sentence. Your potential saviour is a young woman teacher who was also blinded and personally experienced the horrors of where your family is considering sending you. Your new teacher has very little experience, is mocked and given little hope or assistance to succeed.
